Offered is a beautiful antique Austrian majolica humidor tobacco jar decorated in the Art Nouveau style made in the 1800's.
This lovely tobacco jar features a lid with a pipe on it. Flip the lid over and there is the opening where you are suppose to put a sponge. Wet the sponge, wring it out, slip it in and it will keep your tobacco humid.
The body of the humidor features Art Nouveau form and two people with what looks like food. You can find this exact humidor on page 62 in the book "Marvelous Majolica"
The bottom is well marked with the form number impressed into the clay, 9476I also 68. There is a 72 in ink under the glaze. I think this could have been made in 1868 or 1872.
Condition is excellent for its age. I see no chips or cracks.
It measures 4.5 inches long by 3.25 inches wide and stands 4 inches tall.
