Offered Is this beautiful antique French Intaglio plate made by Jerome Massier.
Intaglio is when you make an impression onto the soft clay of a plate and then flood the plate with glaze so the impression you made is well seen, it is the opposite of cameo work, with intaglio, the design is cut away to give an image of relief.
Here we see a central barnyard theme with the rooster on watch while his chicken and a whole gaggle of chicks are eating.
The rim has Intaglio barnyard creatures around it such as rabbits, ducks, roosters, cats, etc.
It is in excellent antique condition! This piece is quite old and has incredible glaze crazing from time. It has two small manufacturer kiln effects as seen in photos. This piece has been used.
It measures 7.75 inches wide.
