Offered is this beautiful antique majolica asparagus platter.
we found this in the east of France.
It is very old with only the numbers 244 carved into the clay on both the top drainer and the bottom asparagus platter.
This two piece attached antique asparagus platter server was made before 1890 when they had to put at least the name of the country on each item.
I did find this same platter in my French asparagus book as you see in the last photo.
The bottom platter features a large green leafed flower or lily pad on a white stippled background, raised grape leaves along the upturned rim with a light brown border.
The attached asparagus strainer cradel features 11 purple, green and white asparagus spears laced together with two open slits for the extra water to flow out.
This piece is also marked with the carved numbers of 244!
This fabulous single 2 part piece is in excellent condition for its great age with no chips or cracks on the front, there is the tinest flake off the bottom foot which is seen in photo #7 and is not seen from the top.
It does have overall glaze crazing which is normal for antique majolica of this age.
This piece measures just over 11 inches long, 8.25 inches wide and stands around 3.75 inches tall.
