Offered for your collecting enjoyment is this lovely antique French majolica Master Oyster Platter.
It is marked with "PV France" which was for the New York importer Mitteldorfer Straus who used this mark between 1890-1920.
It also has the numbers 23496 on the back.
This form of oyster platter is very hard to come by.
It features 12 oyster wells and a blue well for lemon or sauce.
The form is very beautiful.
It measures 14 inches long by 9.5 inches wide.
It is in excellent antique condition for its age with no chips or cracks. It has some glaze skips on the brown handle and some flaking on the back, see photos. It has overall glaze crazing which is normal with antique majolica.
As you see in the last photo, an unsigned platter is valued at almost $800.
