Offered for your collecting enjoyment is this lovely antique French Limoges oyster plate.
Made between 1882 and 1890 by Charles Field Haviland. Well marked with the green underglaze whiteware mark CFH/GDM and the overglaze factory decorating mark as seen in photo.
This is known as the Wave Design mold. It has a gold scalloped rim and the underwater scene of rocks and seaweed with different types of sea shells is done in the mixtion method of transferware and hand painting. It features wells for five oysters on the half shell and has a center well for lemon or vinegarette.
It is in excellent condition for its great age with no chips or cracks. Some very light wear on the gold edge and on the high points of the oyster wells from age and stacking which is normal. There is a small spec in the porcelain mentioned for accuracy.
It measures 8.75 inches in diameter.
