Offered for your collecting enjoyment is this fabulous antique light blue oyster plate.
Made by the Sarreguemines majolica factory between 1835-1885.
Sarreguemines, being in the east of France was also German for quite a while so I hesitate to call this plate French or German since I can not narrow down the year it was made. Towards the end of the 1800's they started puting the year and sometimes the month of production on their majolica. This plate was made before that time.
It is in a wonderful light blue and features six oyster wells and a central well for lemon or vinegrette. The oyster wells are in the form of seashells on top of sea weed.
It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. There are a few small glaze nibbles and glaze crazing as seen in photos that are so small it does not detract from the beauty of this antique oyster plate.
It measures 9.5 inches in diameter.
