Offered for your collecting enjoyment is this lovely hand painted Limoges game bird plate.
The plate was made in Limoges, France in the 1890's for the Lewis Straus & Son. It has the green whiteware mark "FRANCE". It has the blue overglaze exporting mark of Lewis Straus & Son circa 1890's. Pieces with the Straus mark were always professionally hand painted by French artists.
It features a delicately molded and fluted border rim trimmed in gold.
The center scene is of an alert pair of hand painted blue crested game birds just comming out of the forrest brush while two of the same game birds are flying in.
It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks! Some light wear on the gold on the rim edge which is normal for a piece of this age.
It measures a little more than 9 inches in diameter.
