Offered for your private collection is this stunning and very rare antique French Victorian Limoges oyster plate.
This was made between 1882-1890 by the Charles Field Haviland and Gerard, Dufraisseix and Morel factory in Limoges, France.
This is what they call a Lady's oyster plate because it would only serve 3 oysters. Since oysters were known to be an aphrodisiac, the Ladies were not to over indulge! I have one with four wells but the 3 well oyster plates are very rare to come by.
This beautiful antique oyster plate features a gorgeous molded and scalloped form with hand painted pink and gold. It has delicate blue and yellow flowers with green leaves. Just lovely!
The back is well marked with the 1882-1890 makers mark in green under glaze and the blue over glaze factory decorating Mark.
It is in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks!
It measures 6.25 inches at its widest point.
Add this to your personal collection today or give as a fabulous antique gift!
