THIS ITEM IS SOLD, THANK YOU!
Offered for the collectioner is this fabulous antique victorian majolica smoking set comprised of a lidded humidor for loose tobacco, a cigar or cigarette holder, a match holder and the matching and quite ornate platter. This is a fablulous 5 piece set!!
This antique set was made by Antoine Gustave De Bruyn who founded his majolica company on the french border in the town of Fives in 1864. These items are signed on the back with the Fives Lille anchor and DB for De Bruyn and numbered 4031. The platter only has 4031 insized on the back.
The platter measures 13 inches long and 11.25 inches wide. It features an ornate rococo border and has 3 thumb holes. In Victorian times they would have many dinners and parties. The servant would slide her thumb into the hole and carry the platter with one hand while removing the lid of the humidor with the other.
The platter is in excellent condition with one very small nibble you see in photo 10, otherwise, no chips or cracks.
The lidded humidor features an overall ornate rococo theme and sits on 4 feet. It measures 7 inches tall with lid and is almost 4 inches wide on the lid and the jar is 3.5 inches wide. It is in excellent condition for its great age with a small repair on the inside rim that is more felt than seen as you see in photo 12.
The cigar cigarette holder has the same ornate pattern as the humidor. It sits on 4 feet and measures 3.75 inches tall and is 2.75 inches wide. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
The antique match holder also has the same pattern. It measures almost 3 inches tall and almost 2 inches wide. It sits on 4 little feet. It is in good condition for its great age. It has a 2 inch hairline but no chips.
It is so rare to find a whole set like this still together from the 1860's to the 1890's. The colors are green and light blue.
