Offered for your private collection is this beautiful antique majolica oyster plate.
Unmarked except for a mark that is cut into the clay as seen in photo, this was made before 1891 when they had to put at least the name of the country of origin on each item due to the McKinley Tariff Act of 1891. This Act was updated in 1922 and they then had to add "Made in ...." , so this helps to date it.
It features wells for 6 oysters and a center well for lemon or sauce. The rim is trimmed in gold.
It measures 8.75 inches in diameter.
It is in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks! It does have overall glaze crazing which is normal and expected for an item this old.
