Offered for your private collection is this stunning and rare antique French Victorian Limoges oyster plate.
It was made by the Charles Field Haviland and Gerard, Dufraisseix and Morel company in Limoges, France between 1891-1900. This was made for a U.S. Importer or Store.
This is what they called a Lady's oyster plate because it would only serve 4 oysters and since oysters were known as an aphrodisiac properties, they were not to over indulge.
This beautiful oyster plate features a wonderful molded and scalloped form with heavy gold. The center and in between the wells on the outside is seaweed.
The back is well marked with the 1891-1900 makers mark in green under glaze and the red factory decorating mark.
It measures 7.5 inches in diameter.
It is in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks and the gold is gorgeous!
This will make a wonderful addition to your antique oyster plate collection and will be stunning on any color table cloth such as red, green, blue white or gold. See it on my red background!
